Pixeled Cities
Research and Map Design
APRIL 2023
The city map, as illustrated here with Milan, is depicted through the lens of data, specifically emphasizing the distribution of urban trees.
The density of trees is symbolized by 'pixels,' with darker tones indicating lower tree presence and lighter shades revealing higher density. The result is a 'pixelated' city portrait, where beneath a seemingly random surface lies a meaningful representation, unveiling vital data about greenery, shading, and, consequently, the quality of urban life.
All the data - open data - used were downloaded from the Geoportal of the Municipality of Milan, processed with Qgis and displayed with Kepler.gl.
