JANUARY 2021
This project aims to outline real-time pictures of the daily pedestrian traffic generated
by bar and restaurant activities in our neighborhood.
During the period of restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic the food industry has become one of the fields most affected as governments close down restaurants and
bars to slow the spread of the virus.
Restaurants and bars are an important part of the Italian culture and society, with all its
tradition and rituals, from the morning caffè or cappuccino to the aperitivo at the end
of the workday.
Milano, the city where we live and work, is the city that most embodies these trends and that has the greatest number of food and drink spots. For the citizens it is not just about eating and drinking, but it is the core of social life.
The COVID pandemic is affecting the global food industry as governments close down
restaurants and bars to slow the spread of the virus.
Across the world, restaurants' daily traffic dropped precipitously compared to the same period in 2019.
That is why we decided to track the "food
daily pedestrian traffic" from one spot to another according to each opening hour.
We started with the geolocation of the spots still in business, and then we set them as points of interest from the final pedestrian simulation.
